Intergens Boards Vote to Keep School Remote Until At Least January 11th

First, thank you all for your partnership and patience as we all learn to navigate the challenges of living through a global pandemic. We know it has not always been easy, but we appreciate each and every one of you for your willingness to work with our teachers and administrators on the shared commitment of nurturing a love of learning within each and every child.
We are trying to be responsive to what is happening in the neighborhoods surrounding our schools and throughout the county. As of today, Cuyahoga County remains at level red with high incidence, and the county has issued a stay-at-home advisory recommending schools remain remote until December 17, 2020. Yesterday, the Intergenerational Schools Boards of Directors had a Special Board Meeting scheduled to hear from the medical community and the Education Advisory Council in order to decide next steps. This new Cuyahoga County Board of Health resolution was also considered as very important guidance.
In preparation for their planned discussion, the boards reviewed family and teacher survey data, consulted with healthcare professionals, and reviewed research on how schools within our market are currently conducting class. Taking all of this information into deep consideration, the Intergenerational School Boards of Directors voted to remain learning remotely until at least January 11, 2021 to mitigate risk of exposure during and after holidays, and help prevent loss of learning time spent on reacclimating multiple times over one six-week period. We all want to be back in the buildings with students, but the risks to health and safety at this time outweigh the benefits.
The boards will meet again on Tuesday December 8th at 6:00 pm. At this time, the boards will discuss the educational and health and safety plans for a safe return to the school buildings on January 11, 2021. This is a regularly scheduled board meeting, and public comment is welcome and encouraged at the start of the meeting. For more information on making a public comment, please contact Sarah Alonso at SAlonso@igschools.org.
Thursday, November 19th, we will be hosting a Family Town Hall to provide information on how the boards came to this decision and answer questions.
