From teachers to front office staff to administrators, the roles vary, but the mission is the same. To recognize our team members, we will begin a Staff Spotlight Series! Every week, we will be spotlighting a staff member at each Intergenerational School!

Meet Mr. Hallowell

Shawn Hallowell has been Principal at Lakeshore for the past two years, but he isn't new to the Intergens! Before joining Lakeshore as Principal, Mr. Hallowell was Assistant Principal at Near West and TIS-East, and he taught Applying Stage at TIS-East, too! Mr. Hallowell received his bachelor's degree from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and master's degree from Cleveland State University.

What drew you to working education?

Everything about it! I love learning and sharing with others. Also, I love the entire process of learning like working through problems/concepts with students. There is a struggle, frustration and feedback phases, and when that "AH HA" moment comes, there's nothing like it in the world.

What is your favorite thing about our school?

My favorite thing about Lakeshore is the community and family feel. We truly prioritize relationships and social-emotional learning, alongside academics and interactions between staff, students and families.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!

I drink WAY too much coffee in a single day.

What else do you want people to know about you?

I'm a big believer in affirmations and quotes! Share one of your favorites with me!

Meet Ms. Maimone

April Maimone has been with Near West Intergenerational School for three years.  Ms. Maimone was a middle school social studies teacher for 10 years, before moving into various administrative roles for the past seven years. She received her bachelor's degree from Mount Union University (Go Purple Raiders!) and master's degree from the American College of Education.

What drew you to working in education?

I was inspired to go into education by teachers that I had growing up and also by my mom who was a talented, patient and hard-working educator for students with behavioral needs.

What is your favorite thing about our school?

My favorite thing about Near West is that there is such a great atmosphere and climate both in the building and remotely. There is so much joy in the classrooms, along with excellent instruction! Near West is a place where students, staff and families feel safe, respected and listened to. I am so happy and blessed to be a part of such an amazing school!

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!

What drew you to working in education?

My fourth grade teacher was special, and I wanted to be an educator just like her!

What makes our school special?

Everyone at the school is working together to make TIS-East a special place to learn. Our community is what makes the school a special place.
