Love of Learning Summer:
What You Need to Know

Students who are enrolled for the 2021-2022 school year are eligible to attend three, weeklong camps through Love of Learning Summer at the Intergenerational Schools.

Attend just one camp, or all three! Sessions run Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Breakfast and lunch are provided. Camps provide themed enrichment learning for all students, led by Intergens teachers.

Lakeshore Intergenerational School

Coding and Robotics

with Ms. Furlong

Coding and Robotics with Ms. Furlong

Using curriculum from Code.org, students will learn coding and robotics basics. Morning will consist of lessons, and in the afternoon students will work on applying their learning on building their own robots.

Creative Expression

with Ms. Rutz and Ms. Miano

Creative Expression with Ms. Rutz and Ms. Miano

Using curriculum from local writing powerhouse Lake Erie Ink, students will explore the different ways writers can express themselves. Students will explore different genres of writing, including poetry and spoken word, storytelling, and playwriting.

Baking Basics

with Ms. Ponsart and Ms. Chmielewski

Baking Basics with Ms. Ponsart and Ms. Chmielewski

 Students will learn and practice measurement and functional reading skills and learn about the science behind baking. Students will make recipes and create a cookbook of the recipes the group bakes together.

Students will learn teamwork and the fundamental skills of soccer, lacrosse, volleyball, basketball, and football.

Connect with Cleveland with Ms. Onda and Ms. Monaghan

Students will be introduced to attractions around Cleveland through walking field trips around the near west side of Cleveland. This session is only offered one week.

Current eighth graders are invited to join a range of activities to build community and human connection before they move on to high school in the fall. Students engage in a variety of activities and two field trips. Activities will focus on art and creativity, drama and sports.

Newspaper Club

Newspaper Club with Mr. Crook

Students will learn writing, research, and graphic design skills to develop a student newspaper. Through creating a newspaper, students will learn how to work together to create something new.

The Sport of Life: Football

with Mr. Harris

The Sport of Life: Football Camp with Mr. Harris

Through a partnership with Benedictine High School and the Boys and Girls Club, students will build character, leadership skills, teamwork, study habits, and strong discipline through the study of the game of football. Each session will focus on a particular aspect of football. Workouts will include running, catching, jumping, and agility. Choose which weeks you will attend.

Students will read and explore graphic novels, noticing elements of both stories and illustrations. At least one local artist will join the group to help students create their own graphic novels. This session will only be available one week.

What to Bring to Camp

Backpack

Masks (Please make sure your student has an extra mask in their bookbag)

Water bottle labeled with name

Sunscreen (for sessions with outdoor activities)

Packed breakfast/lunch optional

  • Students will not be able to share supplies.
  • Supplies should be kept in a clear, plastic Ziploc bag.
  • Additional items, such as lunch bags, change of clothes, sweater, water bottle, etc. can be kept in a book bag placed on the back of their chair.
  • Please remember to frequently clean out and disinfect your child(ren)'s book bags, outerwear and lunch bags.

What to Wear
to Camp

Mask

Uniforms are NOT required. Masks ARE required.
Students should dress comfortably. Clothing with offensive graphics and/or slogans will not be permitted.

Students must wear gym shoes or other closed-toe shoes.

Students should bring their own properly fitting mask with ear loops. Masks will be worn over mouth and nose inside at all times.

Students will have outside 'mask breaks'.

  • Masks are required for all staff and students.
  • Staff and students should bring their own personal masks from home.
  • Schools will stock extra masks in child and adult sizes for students and staff who might forget.
  • Schools will supply face shields to have available for all in-person staff and students. These must be worn with a mask for added protection. Shields will be labeled with the student's name.
  • Classes will go outside frequently (weather permitting) throughout the day for mask breaks while maintaining safe distances.

Social Distancing in Classrooms and Outside

On March 19, 2021 the CDC issued updated operational procedures for K-12 schools.

In elementary schools, the CDC now recommends all students remain at least three feet apart in classrooms where mask use is universal, regardless of community transmission.

Students will continue to distance at least six feet apart in the hallways and outside.

Eating at Camp

Lunch

All students will be offered breakfast and lunch.
Depending on the session registered, students will eat either at their desks behind their individual desk shield or outside with 6ft social distancing.
Students are permitted to bring breakfast and lunch from home.

School Building Quarantine Protocols

Quarantine

The school will consult the Cleveland Department of Public Health on all quarantines.

If there is positive case in any camp session the school will follow the Family COVID Guidance Document and notify those families affected.
